Dr Helen E Lees is lecturer in education studies at Newman University, Birmingham, UK. She is co-editor with Professor Nel Noddings of the Palgrave International Handbook of Alternative Education, due out in May 2016. She is founding Editor-in-Chief, of Other Education – the journal of educational alternatives (www.othereducation.org), which has been publishing two issues per year since 2012, with the seventh issue due out in the new year. Her PhD and subsequent work on home education has focused on the social, political and philosophical contexts needed for a wider and better understanding of home education as viable option and lifestyle choice. Recent home education work is Education Without Schools: Discovering alternatives (Policy Press, 2014) and Home Education in the UK, co-authored with Fiona Nicholson, in the M. Gaither (Ed.) Wiley International Handbook of Home Education (2016).
